Signs Your Septic System Needs Repair

Most septic problems give you a warning before they turn into sewage in the house. If you notice any of these, call before it gets worse.

  • Slow drains and gurgling

Several drains slowing down at once, or toilets and tubs gurgling, usually means the problem is in the tank or the line out to it, not one blocked pipe.

  • Sewage smell inside or out

A smell near the tank or over the drain field can mean a cracked lid, a broken baffle, or water coming up through the ground.

  • Soggy ground or extra-green grass over the field

Wet spots, standing water or a strip of greener grass over the field lines in dry weather means water isn't soaking away the way it should.

  • Backups into the lowest drain

Sewage coming up in a shower, tub or floor drain is the system telling you it's full or blocked. Stop running water and call us.

  • Septic alarm going off

If your system has a pump tank, the alarm means the water level is too high. That's usually a failed pump, float switch or control.

  • Still backing up after a pump-out

If the tank has just been pumped and drains are still slow, the blockage is in a line. We hydro jet the line to clear it.

What we repair

Septic Repairs We Handle

A septic system is a tank, the pipes in and out of it, and a drain field that soaks treated water into the ground. We repair every part of it.

  • Septic tanks and baffles

Cracked or broken lids, leaking inlet and outlet pipes, and missing or broken baffles (the tees inside the tank that keep solids from flowing out to your field).

  • Sewer lines to and from the tank

Lines that are crushed, broken, sagging or full of roots. We clear them with a hydro jetter or dig up and replace the damaged section.

  • Distribution boxes

When the box that splits water between your field lines settles or breaks, one line floods while the others sit dry. We level, repair or replace it.

  • Drain fields and field lines

We find which field lines are clogged or broken and repair them. When a field has failed, we tell you straight and quote a replacement.

  • Pumps, floats and alarms

For systems with a pump tank: pump replacement, float switches, control panels and alarms.

  • Risers, lids and effluent filters

Risers bring the lid up to ground level so the tank is easy to reach next time. A clogged effluent filter can back the whole house up.

How it works

How a Septic Repair Works

Our job is to find the real cause, so you pay for the repair you need and not one you don't.

  1. 01

Call and talk to the owner

Tell us what you're seeing. If it's an emergency, we're on the way, usually within 1-2 hours across Paducah, Murray and Mayfield.

  2. 02

Find the tank and the fault

If nobody knows where the tank is, we locate it first. Then we open it up and check the baffles, filter, lines and field until we know what's failing.

  3. 03

    Price before any work

We explain what's wrong and what it costs to fix. Nothing starts until you agree to the price.

  4. 04

    Repair, test and clean up

We make the repair, run water through to check it's flowing, and clean up the yard before we leave. The repair carries our warranty on parts and labor.

Septic Repair Questions

What people ask us most before booking a repair.

How much does septic repair cost?

Our septic repairs start from $249. Sewer line repairs also start from $249, risers and lids from $220, and effluent filter cleaning or replacement from $99. A failed drain field that needs replacing is priced after we see the site. You get the price before any work starts.

How do I know if my septic system needs repair?

Watch for several drains slowing down at once, gurgling toilets, sewage smells, soggy ground or extra-green grass over the field lines, sewage backing up into the lowest drain, or a septic alarm going off.

My tank was just pumped but the drains are still slow. Why?

Then the blockage is usually in a line, not the tank. It happened to a customer of ours recently: the tank was pumped, the line was still stopped up, so we came back and hydro jetted the line to get it flowing clear.

Can my drain field be repaired, or does it need replacing?

Often a field that looks failed has a fixable cause: a broken baffle sending solids out, a clogged filter, a crushed line or a distribution box that has settled. We check those first. If the field itself has failed, we tell you straight and quote a replacement.

Do you do emergency septic repairs?

Yes. We're on call 24/7, and emergency service starts from $199. We're typically on site within 1-2 hours across Paducah, Murray and Mayfield.

Is your septic repair work under warranty?

Yes. Our repairs come with a warranty on parts and labor. The terms depend on the repair, and we explain them before we start.

Will the repair tear up my yard?

Some repairs mean digging down to the tank or a line. We dig only where we need to and clean up when the work is done.

What areas do you cover?

We're based in Hickory, KY and cover Western Kentucky, including Paducah, Murray, Mayfield, Benton, Calvert City, Princeton, Cadiz, Eddyville, Fulton, Hickman, Bardwell and Wingo, and McCracken, Graves, Marshall, Ballard, Fulton and Hickman Counties.
